„Picturesque Innsbruck“

Einen wunderbaren Blick auf Wilten bietet diese Stereo-Fotografie aus dem Verlag Underwood & Underwood aus dem Jahr 1898. Die Karte trägt den Titel „Picturesque Innsbruck, the Capital of Tyrol – Austria – Below the stern Bavarian Alps.“

Auf der Rückseite des Fotos gibt es eine ausführliche Bildbeschreibung in englischer Sprache: „We are looking almost directly north from the Iselberg, with high mountains behind us. Munich ist 70 miles away straigt ahead beyond that gigantic mountain-wall. Lake Constance and the Swiss frontier are about as far away at our left (W.). Vienna and Budapesth and Kronstadt are farther and farther away at the east; and behind us, 40 miles distant, Venice lies asleep on the shores of the Adriatic. The river Inn which gives the town its name is flowing along the the N. E. (right) at the foot of the mountains. This little winding stream that we see over the church-roof is its tributary, the Sill. The town has less than 24.000 people and no large commercial interest, but its romantic beauty is unique in all Europe.“

Underwood & Underwood war ein US-amerikanisches Unternehmen zur Herstellung und zum Vertrieb von fotografischem Bildmaterial, Fotodokumentationen und Stereoskopien. Die Firma wurde im Jahr 1881 in Ottawa, Kansas von den Brüdern Bert und Elmer Underwood gegründet. Underwood & Underwood entwickelte sich zu einer der ersten weltweiten Nachrichten-Bildagenturen. Die Firma expandierte und gründete Niederlassungen in New York, London und Toronto. Um das Jahr 1900 herum produzierte die Firma unter anderem täglich um die 25.000 Stereo-Fotokarten, die in thematisch sortierten Boxen zum Kauf angeboten wurden.
